Rediscovering Joyful Movement This Spring (No Gym Required)

Would you rather: play frisbee or wiffle ball?

If that question made you smile, you're already halfway to moving your body in a way that feels good.

Spring is the season of possibility. Longer days, warmer air, and the sudden desire to be outside as much as humanly possible. It's also the perfect time to rethink what movement can look like - especially if you've ever felt stuck in the all-or-nothing trap when it comes to exercise.

When I Stopped Exercising, Something Surprising Happened

There was a time - after I ditched the diet world - when I stopped working out altogether. For years, movement was tied to shrinking my body, earning my food, or being "good." And when I left that behind, I wasn't sure what was left.

But eventually, something shifted. I missed how movement made me feel:

Stronger. Calmer. More like myself.

I wasn't chasing a number anymore - I was seeking confidence, energy, joy.

Turns out, research backs this up: regular movement boosts self-esteem, reduces stress, and floods your body with those feel-good endorphins we all crave. It's not about the punishment - it's all about pleasure.

Spring-Inspired Ways to Move (That Don't Feel Like a Workout)

Movement doesn't have to look like burpees or bootcamps to "count." It can be playful, gentle, spontaneous - even silly.

Here are some joyful movement ideas to try this spring:

  • Go hiking on a sunny afternoon

  • Plant a garden (yes, pulling weeds is a workout!!!)

  • Turn spring cleaning into a dance party while you move furniture

  • Try yoga or tai chi at the park

  • Play pickleball, frisbee, or even fly a kite

  • Join a pole fitness or sexy dance class just for fun

  • Bring back the classics: hopscotch, jump rope, tag

  • Dance your heart out at an outdoor music festival

Anything that gets your body moving and your heart smiling? That's joyful movement!

📸 Feel Good BTS 📸

I'm lucky enough to live in Florida where farmers and vendor markets go year round. Last weekend we were able to walk around a local Bloom & Grow market. It brought all of the spring vibes. It was also very on brand for Bloom Flourish Fitness. As the weather gets warmer, get some steps in by checking out local events or being a tourist in your own town.
